Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing

HomeRemote Sensing and Digital Image Processing

Introduction

Land utilization and land coverage alteration have emerged as pivotal elements in contemporary strategies for resource management and environmental monitoring. The advancement in the concept of vegetation mapping has significantly propelled research on land utilization and land coverage alteration, thereby facilitating precise assessments of the distribution and well-being of global forests, grasslands, and agricultural resources, which have become pressing priorities. Gaining insights of Earth through space observation has now become essential for comprehending the impact of human activities on the natural resource base over time. In cases of rapid and often unrecorded changes in land use, space-based observations offer objective information on human utilization of the landscape. In recent years, data from Earth observation satellites has become indispensable for mapping Earth’s features and infrastructures, resource management, and the study of environmental changes.

Therefore, participants will acquire practical skills in utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing as tools for capturing, storing, analyzing, managing, and visualizing changes in land cover and land use.
