Project Details
The Kano River Irrigation Project is one of the largest and most successful irrigation schemes in Nigeria. It is located in Bunkure, Kura and Garum Malam Local Government of Kano State. Its source of water is the Tiga Dam, which provides a perfect setting for gravity irrigation. Its total irrigable area is 22,000 hectares. Due to damage of the irrigation, their was need to repair the infrastructure which prompt the needs to carryout the resettlement action plan for the repairs of the infrastructure. Farmer profiling and socio-economic survey to collect socioeconomic data especially all household income sources and livelihood strategies for the project area through interviews and structured questionnaire administered in the field by project assistants. Analysis of surveys and studies to obtain information required to determine household and community level compensation; to design appropriate livelihood restoration and development interventions; to provide information on human development indicators necessary for monitoring and evaluation of RAP implementation. Consultations with affected persons concerning assistance benefits, development opportunities and livelihood restoration through public forums, focus group discussions with relevant groups and stakeholders.

- To train the enumerator for data collection
- Detailed mapping of the project area using high resolution satellite imagery and cadastral maps/land surveys to identify the different land use/ land cover categories including households, cropland/agricultural plots, fixed assets and structures, natural resources, economic trees, livelihood activities and important cultural assets. Production of thematic land use maps of the project area.
- Produce map to delineate households, farm plots, economic trees, etc. within the project area using satellite imagery/cadastral mapping;
- Carry out census that enumerates the potential affected people and register them according to location;
Carry out socio economic surveys and studies of all affected people (including seasonal migrants and host population) as necessary
