Project Details
The project involved leveraging Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to prepare essential safeguard instruments, including Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs), and other relevant documentation. These instruments were developed to align with national and international standards, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting sustainable development.
Key Activities:
- Baseline Data Collection:
Geospatial Research Limited conducted detailed field surveys to collect spatial and non-spatial data for the identified sites. This included mapping existing drainage channels, assessing environmental conditions, and capturing socio-economic data from affected communities. - GIS Analysis and Mapping:
Using advanced GIS tools, we analyzed spatial data to identify areas of concern, such as flood-prone zones and environmentally sensitive locations. High-resolution maps were developed to support decision-making and guide interventions. - Preparation of Safeguard Instruments:
Based on the data collected, we prepared comprehensive safeguard instruments, ensuring they addressed the social, environmental, and economic implications of the drainage interventions. These documents were designed to minimize adverse impacts while maximizing project benefits. - Stakeholder Engagement:
The project included active engagement with key stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and international partners. Workshops and public consultations were conducted to incorporate feedback and ensure transparency throughout the process.
Outcomes:
- Successfully prepared safeguard instruments that were critical for the implementation of the Ibadan City Drainage Master Plan.
- Produced GIS-based maps and data sets that provided valuable insights into the project sites, supporting effective planning and decision-making.
- Ensured compliance with environmental and social safeguard policies, promoting sustainable development in Ibadan City.
This project demonstrated Geospatial Research Limited’s expertise in applying GIS technology for urban planning and environmental management. By integrating technical knowledge with stakeholder collaboration, the consultancy contributed to advancing the resilience and sustainability of Ibadan’s urban infrastructure.
